3 “Expectations vs. Reality” Facts about an OnlyFans Career

Hey! Let me introduce myself first. I’m Egor, an OnlyFans content creator and the founder of Twinkom – a management agency for content creators and an underwear brand. I was born in Russia and escaped to Spain as a refugee on my 19th birthday because of homophobia. I started my OnlyFans account around six years ago, right after I got my first EU documents, so I definitely have something to tell you about it.

1. “OnlyFans is easy Money”

I think the biggest and most common misconception about an OnlyFans career is that it’s easy money.

A friend once told me, “I’m gonna move to a big city, find a job, and if it doesn’t work out, I’ll just open an OnlyFans and become rich.”

Yes, content creators can make big money, but most newcomers don’t really understand the amount of work you have to put in to be successful in this business.

It takes an enormous amount of time and energy to stay on top — social media management, marketing, production, post-production, organizing trips and collaborations, chatting, maintaining your body, skin, hair, etc. You should treat it as a full-time job or work with a professional agency that will take anywhere from 30% to 80% of your income, depending on how much they do for you.

2. “Only insanely beautiful People succeed on OnlyFans”

That’s not always true. First of all, beauty is subjective – everyone has their own taste, and you are definitely beautiful to a lot of people.

But when we talk about social media, we’re talking about business, and the competition is huge. Your content has to stand out, so creators do everything they can to get that “special look.” That includes me. I don’t consider myself particularly pretty, but over the years, I’ve learned how lighting works, how to pose, how to retouch content. Out of 1,000 pictures, you pick just one – the one where you look your best.

People don’t see you when you’re tired, sad, heartbroken, or haven’t slept for days. Of course, some creators don’t care about this, but others edit themselves until they look like a completely different person.

3. “Making Content is just pressing record while having Fun”

A lot of people think you just take out your phone and film while having fun. Well, sometimes that works, but in my experience, most of the time, production takes hours of hard work (in both meanings of the word).

If you have a cameraman, it’s easier, but when you film alone, you have to manage everything – angles, poses, lighting, camera position – all while staying excited.

Four hours of filming can turn into a 20-minute video… followed by another 3–5 hours of post-production.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, every content creator is their own boss. You decide how to manage your business and create content.

But in my opinion, if you’re only in it for the money, the adult industry is not the best choice for you. To be successful, you need to genuinely enjoy what you do – showing yourself on camera, getting attention, interacting with fans, and being an object of desire.

Otherwise, it can take a serious toll on your mental health.

I hope this was interesting for you. Don’t shame creators for what they do – we create content for you to enjoy, and it’s not always as easy as it seems. Wishing you all the best!
